When a professional couple in Adel commissioned a kitchen for their extensive renovation project, they had a clear vision: a space built around entertaining, with the craftsmanship and precision of German engineering at its core. The result is one of our most talked-about projects. A handleless kitchen that combines clean architectural lines with genuine warmth, and a statement island that has become the centrepiece of the entire ground floor.
Designed and installed by Arlington Interiors, this kitchen demonstrates what is possible when premium materials, considered layout and real design ambition come together in a single space.
Kitchen Design Brief
The clients wanted their kitchen to feel like a natural extension of the architecture, not something added to a room but something that belonged to it. With a large glazed garden room forming the backdrop, the kitchen needed to hold its own against serious architectural features: Crittall-style steel doors, a full rooflight, and a seamless indoor/outdoor connection created by large format floor tiles continuing straight out to the garden terrace.
Clean lines and a handleless design were non-negotiable. So was performance. This is a kitchen used daily for cooking and weekly for entertaining, and every choice had to work as hard as it looks.

Designing a Handleless Kitchen for a Home Renovation
The kitchen is built around two distinct zones, separated by a statement island that anchors the entire layout. The main run of Kühlmann cabinetry in Matt White Port F runs the full length of the wall, creating a calm, uninterrupted line that lets the materials do the talking. Above the worktop, Limo Black glazed upper units introduce a dark architectural accent, their smoked glass doors echoing the steel frames of the Crittall doors and windows throughout the space.
The floating Calacatta quartz shelf sits inline with the glazed units, lit from below by integrated LED strip lighting. It is a detail that feels considered rather than decorative, casting a warm glow across the 80mm Calacatta quartz worktop and splashback below. At 80mm thick, the worktop is four times the depth of a standard kitchen surface and is exactly what gives the space its sense of solidity and permanence.
The island is where Arlington's design signature is most visible. The Graphite Supermatt Grey base with matching rails sits beneath an oversized 80mm Calacatta quartz top, with the waterfall end cut at a dramatic angle rather than dropping straight to the floor.
Tucked behind the tall unit run is a custom breakfast bar, a quiet design decision that makes a significant difference to how the kitchen works day to day. It creates a separate casual dining zone that keeps the main island clear for preparation and serving, without adding visual clutter to the space.
Kühlmann German Kitchen Cabinetry
Kühlmann kitchens are designed and manufactured in Germany to exacting standards. The cabinetry in this project is specified in Matt White Port F for the main run and Graphite Supermatt Grey with matching rails for the island base, two finishes that sit together with the kind of precision you only get from a manufacturer that controls every part of the process. Handleless, durable and built to last decades rather than years.
Siemens iQ500 Appliances
The Siemens iQ500 oven and combination microwave are housed in a single integrated tower, with black glass fascias that disappear into the cabinetry until they are needed. Alongside these, a 90cm integrated Siemens tall fridge sits flush within the tall unit run, keeping the wall of cabinetry completely uninterrupted. For a household that takes food seriously, the iQ500 range delivers the performance to match.
Quooker Fusion Square, Aged Brass
The Quooker Fusion Square tap delivers instant boiling water on demand, removing the need for a kettle and the clutter that comes with it. In this kitchen we specified the aged brass finish, chosen deliberately to echo the warm veining running through the Calacatta quartz worktop and splashback. It is the kind of considered material decision that separates a designed kitchen from a fitted one.
Bora 2.0 Modular Dual Induction Downdraft Hob
The Bora 2.0 Modular Dual Induction Downdraft hob extracts cooking vapours directly through the worktop surface, removing the need for an overhead extractor hood. In a kitchen with this much architectural openness, a hood suspended above the main cooking zone would have broken the clean sightlines across the space. Sat flush within the Calacatta quartz surface alongside the sink and Quooker tap, the hob is virtually invisible when not in use. When it is in use, it is one of the most capable induction hobs available.
Caple Tall Wine Conditioner
The Caple tall wine conditioner stores a serious collection at the precise temperature each wine demands. Integrated within the tall unit run, it holds its own as a design feature in its own right, the lit interior and dark shelving visible through the glass door making it as much a talking point as a practical addition. For a household built around entertaining, it is an easy decision to make.
