This two-tone grey kitchen was designed for a home extension in Calverley, where the aim was to create a kitchen that would bring definition to an open-plan living space. Soft grey Kühlmann cabinetry is paired with an anthracite grey island, finished in Silestone Desert Silver and opening onto a relaxed lounge centred around a stone-clad fireplace.
This kitchen design project shows how carefully balanced colours, materials and thoughtful planning can create a kitchen that feels both practical and effortlessly calm.
Testimonial from Mrs Shaw:
"I am so happy that I went with Arlington interiors for our new kitchen, being such a huge decision I had to get it right.
Ben designed our kitchen and got it spot on, I couldn’t be happier. Ben was very patient and went above and beyond to make my dream kitchen happen.

Kitchen Design Brief
The brief centred around creating a kitchen that felt connected to the new extension while giving each area of the room its own identity. Rather than using one finish throughout, two complementary tones were chosen to define different parts of the space. Soft putty grey tall units keep the perimeter light and understated, while the graphite grey island naturally becomes the focal point for cooking, dining and everyday family life.

Practicality was just as important as appearance. A dedicated coffee station sits at the end of the main run, creating a defined place for the morning routine, while additional storage beneath the breakfast bar provides valuable cupboard space without reducing the generous worktop above.

Designing a Two-Tone Grey Kitchen for Everyday Life
The island is the clearest expression of the two-tone concept. Finished in anthracite grey Kühlmann cabinetry and topped with Silestone Desert Silver, it provides seating for three while incorporating additional storage beneath the breakfast bar overhang.

At the end of the main cabinetry run, a dedicated coffee station creates its own destination within the kitchen, giving everything needed for everyday use a natural place within the design.

The kitchen flows directly into a stone-clad lounge with a wood-burning stove and wall-mounted television. Rather than feeling like separate rooms, the kitchen and living area work together as one connected space, allowing cooking, relaxing and entertaining to happen naturally.

Every design decision supports the two-tone concept. Lighter cabinetry keeps the room feeling open and calm, while the darker island anchors the space. A generous breakfast bar, integrated storage and carefully planned layout create a kitchen that feels every bit as functional as it is refined.
Kuhlmann Grey Cabinetry
For this contemporary kitchen design we specified the Feel range across two tones, platinum for the tall units and anthracite for the island, a handleless finish with a soft-touch surface that lets the colour contrast do the work rather than any additional detailing.

Miele Appliances
The island’s Miele Venting Induction Hob extracts cooking vapours directly through the worktop, so there’s no need for an overhead hood breaking up the sightline into the lounge.

Elsewhere, a Miele Pyro Oven, Combi Microwave and warming drawer, all finished in Graphite Grey, handle the everyday cooking, alongside an integrated fridge freezer and dishwasher.

Silstone Desert Silver Worktops
The worktops throughout are Silestone Desert Silver from Cosentino, in a soft suede finish that reads as a warm, muted stone rather than a hard, reflective surface. It’s a practical, everyday worktop, resistant to heat, scratches and stains, that quietly unifies the two-tone cabinetry underneath it.

Choosing the right worktop is about more than colour alone. At our Farsley showroom, you can explore a wide range of Silestone, Dekton and natural stone samples alongside full kitchen displays, helping you compare materials, finishes and colours in person before making your decision.
